How do You Know Your Child is Ready for Potty Training?
Usually parents start potty-training when their child is between two and three years old.
Make sure not to start too early. Usually toddlers are mentally and physically ready to be potty trained between 18 months and 3 years of age.If your child is not ready yet, this process can become long and frustrating (for you) and stressful and traumatizing (for your child). For example; The bladder muscles must be developed enough to hold the urine.
Here are Some Signs that Your Toddler is Ready to be Potty Trained.
Behavioral Signs
Can your child sit down quietly in one position for two to five minutes?
Can your toddler pull his/her pants up and down?
Does your child dislikes the feeling of wearing wet or dirty diapers?
Does your toddler shows interest in your's or others' bathroom habits?
Does he or she give a physical or verbal sign (squatting, grunting or telling you) when he/she is having a bowel movement?
Does your toddler take pride in his/her accomplishments?
Does your child demonstrate a desire for independence?
Does your child resist learning to use the toilet?
Is your child in a generally cooperative stage, not a negative or contrary one?
Cognitive Signs
Does your toddler understand the physical signals that mean he/she has to go and can tell you before it happens or even hold it until he/she has time to get to the potty?
Can your child follow simple instructions, such as "go get the toy."?
Does he/she understand the value of putting things where they belong?
Does your toddler have words for urine and stool?
